Buffalo Chips Weekly News Update

London Marathon.....Deann Kastor Storms to 2:19

American Deena Kastor maintained the impact of the Southern California training center shown by Meb Keflezighi last week at Boston with a new AMERICAN RECORD for women at 2:19:35. she is the first American woman to "break 2:20" and only the 8th woman ever to enter this hallowed territory.

the women's field was paced by two men, one was selectd by Deena. apparently he was not quite as strong as she, but managed to finish about a minute BACK of her. his effort, however, was rewarded with a PR and a "B" qualifier for our next OLY Trials.

Pre-race "hype" for Haile G. was not fulfilled as he was barely "top 10" finisher (2:09) and another naturalized American Khalid Khannouchi was 4th overall at 2:07:04. There were SEVEN men under 2:08 and on the women's side FIVE females ran faster than 2:22!

Zippy's 5K PA-USATF Grand Prix Event in S.F. on Sunday (23 April)

(From Linda Hall...)

It was a perfect day for a run in Golden Gate Park, cloudy and in the 50s with a slight mist. We had only a very small group of Chips there, however. Barbara Miller was first in her 5 year age group and was first overall for the 10 year PAUSATF age group. The only other Chips women I saw were Chris Wellins and Linda Hall. So we had a senior women's team but not enough for a supersenior women. The only Chips man I saw was Doug Braasch. I may have missed some.

The next PAUSATF race will be in the Marin 10K on Monday May 29. I hope we get a better turn out there. Our teams have been almost non-existent at most of the races this year and we are missing out on prize money for the club.
