Doug Arnold, showing that turning 60 is not a real burden to the inspired, finished with distinction the QUAD DIPSEA this past weekend. Also in the finisher’s column was the ever young 73 year experienced Lee Rhodes. Congratulations to all finishers there and especially to our senior inspirations !

Run To Feed The Hungry, 20,000 and more each year !

The 2006 edition of this wonderful event was staged in perhaps an almost IDEAL Fall day. If you were one of the perhaps dozen or so Sacramento area runners NOT there you missed a most incredible morning group workout.

The men’s event was highly contested and the order of the final paychecks was only decided at the finish line by a 2 second margin between first and second for the men. It had been a solidly contested battle from the second mile onward in that front of the pack group in the 10k. For women, it appears that the general order of finishers was probably decided by the end of the first mile with out-of-towners Kristen Anderson (first) and Heather Gibson (second) taking solid claim to those pay totals, but local CHIP MARY COORDT put her claim in for 3rd quite early in the distance and turned a solid 37 minute effort into that payday for 3rd woman.

Master’s Chip female Jenny Hitchings broke 40 minutes for the VERY FIRST TIME to claim the 40-49 best effort with another impressive Chippee in Angela Tanghetti finishing at 6:53/mile in her first race in a couple of years ! Welcome back Ms. Tanghetti! Diane Kato and Linda Hall also placed well in their respective divisions.

On the men’s side, High Dunger John Blue WON the men’s 40-44 with the creative John Nichols close behind in 3rd for that division. Dennis Early took a 3rd in the 50-54 divison and the 55-59 age group was WON by Chris Enfante. Craig Newport was 3rd in the 60-64 age set with the legendary Gordon Hall claiming 3rd in the 70-74 group. Congratulations to all finishers, of course.

In the fast field 5k, Kirsten Schneider was 2nd in the 35-39 division; Florence Fong was 2nd in the 65-69 and Po Adams WON the over 80 age range. On the men’s side Roger Fong WON the men’s 70-74 and Tim Jordan and Don Spickelmier went 1-2 in the 65-69 set as they continue to duke it out with no clear pattern yet resolved as that battle goes back some 35 years !

Congratulations, of course to ALL FINISHERS!

Reportedly the BIG WINNER on Thanksgiving was the Sacramento Foodbank with around $500,000 generated from this wonderful event for their programs.

THANK YOU SACRAMENTO !
