Saturday, January 21, 8:00 a.m. from University Park on University Ave. near the Howe Ave. overpass:
FREE Club Race/time trial: Using the University Park 5k/10k road course, club members will have the choice of either a personally timed 5k distance or 10k option. The actual time start will be at about 8:15 a.m. after a 1-2 mile warmup starting at 8 am. This format harkens back to the 1980’s when we had several Saturday low-key speed workout options around the area. Running 3-4 miles at a strong tempo effort is very good preparation for a long endurance run in the subsequent 24-30 hours, since the Saturday 3-4 miles at tempo promotes higher levels of red blood cell count and thus better oxygen carrying capacity—according to some research.
Sunday, January 22, 8:00 a.m. from Panera Bread Company at 901 Howe Ave, Sacramento.
Long run workout with 75 minutes out and faster back the scheduled format.
